Working at Publix, you are told that it's a growing company, where you can grow in "rank" while having to start from the bottom. That is a complete lie.

I have worked as a bagger for a year now in Columbus, Ga, being told to wait 6 months before being trained as cashier. I waited 8, whereas a brand new bagger from the streets(samg age/experience) will be hired and trained as cashier in the same month. At a year and a half now after showing my competence to be promoted several times, I have watched my co-workers being promoted, in less time than i have worked here, still a bagger, with more responsibilities. I, myself, am not the only person with this same problem. I and a few other of my co-workers have worked here for a year, a couple years, or more and while you're NOT on the good side of my manager, you will not be promoted. I was told in my interview that I can grow in this company (within reason of course). All i see in this company are a bunch of greedy bastards who cannot pay a dollar more with the same employees that has been with them for at least a year, while they bring in other people to start them off at the lowest pay possible.

On my evaluations, instead of getting the "grade" i expect myself to have, they give me the standard numbers and advice. "Bring in more carts" "Always offer the customer help" Basically what is it, I am being told to do better, at something I have already been doing the entire time I've been working here. I bring in carts, EVERY TIME i leave the building. The managers excuse? you have to make sure your co-workers are doing the same thing and become their role-model. Where on my job description does it say "mentor?" Unless I have manger's pay, I am not going to boss my own peers around.

I feel like, with as much work and effort I put into this company and the customers, none of my actions are recognized by anyone but myself. And no I don't expect rewards for fetching the forgotten loaf of bread, but when it effects my evaluations and when I'm being told I'm NOT doing something that I DO, there's a problem. Yes, I am currently in the process of getting a new job in real estate and is studying for the test I have to take.

It's good you're getting out now. Go and don't look back. Favoritism, Nepotism, and 'good old boy' ism have ruled at Publix for a long time.

Have you been telling people your studying for real estate? If you are people are telling management which is preventing you from gaining anything at Publix.

They want people who are 200% committed to Publix. I am not impressed with this company. They never quite live up to all the hype.

Also they are bullies. I dont like bullies.

The real truth about promotion is how you perform,(1-pull your pants down and do what your manager tells you to do,(2- and if you perform on manager make sure you swallow,(3- do not scream that is a no-no(4-and do not show and tell,

I meant to say I doubt he's lying. I believe him.

I have no doubt he's lying. I am a former Publix employee and our district manager played favoritism.

He didn't like gays and anyone he knew was *** he would get his favorite managers to do everything possible to make them quit. The same district I worked in was full of nepotism. Every store manager had a father, brother, nephew, cousin who was the store manager in another building down the street, and they all hired their families and quickly moved them up the ranks.

That was only the tip of the iceberg. I found another job as quickly as possible and don't regret it.

There is more to the story than you are telling or even are aware of. Maybe it is the fact that you think you deserve more credit than you actually do.

Maybe it is because you think you are better than other employees. Actually you have no idea why other people are being promoted faster than you, but believe me there is a reason.
