Verified ReviewerOutrageous prices
I recently vacationed up north. Every store I went into had a keto bread called Halo.
The bread was $5.99 a loaf. Today I went to Publix, and they also had the Halo bread, but it's $9.99 a loaf. Deli meat up north, Sahlens ham, was $6.99 a pound. Publix does not carry this brand, but Publix's own label Deli ham is $9.99 a pound.
There's absolutely no reason for this.
It's not like we are in Alaska where everything has to be shipped. I understand Publix stores are always very clean and the employees go above and beyond to help when needed, but this is ridiculous.
- Clean stores
- Friendly employees

Preferred solution: Price reduction

Verified ReviewerHorrible Produce
Besides Publix making billions of dollars by fixing prices with all the other corporations to rob us all blind, I even end up throwing away at least 90% of everything I buy from the produce section. The watermelon is never ever sweet or firm.
It's just awful, and I can't see how they can even sell that trash. Grapes are mushy and rotten, peaches are as hard as a rock, romaine lettuce is good only one out of ten packs, blueberries are soft and have no flavor, there's mold on them, except for 10% of the time. I can't take things back or I'd be there every day because the food is so awful and of course, most stores are just the same these days, all selling the same trash and charging the highest rates in history with the worst customer care ever. Employees have no power or can't answer a single question—or at times, they don't speak English in South Florida.
This is what happens when prices are fixed and monopolies all do the exact same thing, we consumers have no choice. Competition is what made this country great, and now there is none.
- Clean store
- Customer service poor
- Produce awful
- Prices horrible
User's recommendation: Don't buy produce here at all.

What is going on with Publix's prices? I went food shopping yesterday and at least 13 items had increased in price.
This has been just since last week. Cookies are 65 cents more expensive than last week. Meat is incredibly priced. How do people eat?
There was a small tray of chicken wings, maybe 12, priced at $22.00. Flank steak, maybe enough for 2-3 people, was priced at $28.00. Not to mention, 2 small rib eyes cost $35.00. It's just ridiculous!
Profits increased by $3 billion during the same period in 2020. Corporate greed at its best.
User's recommendation: Complain to DOJ to complain
Greed
Avocados 2/$5. really?
1 dozen jumbo eggs $6. $23.99/lb for ribeye. Tomatoes went moldy after one day. Same with blueberries and strawberries.
Grapefruit is the size of oranges. Pistachios up 50%. Cheerios $10/box. Asparagus up over 100%.
Self checkout while employees watch you do their job. 4 cashier lanes open out of 12.
3 BILLION in profits. Bend over and enjoy.
I dont shop here anymore. The prices are so out of control. There is no reason for the continuous gouging except company greed. A company that is supporting the corporate greed group. Bye bye Publix.
I have been comparing prices with other retailers and Publix is charging the same as some boutique grocery stores. I also am seeing a decline in the food quality.
Not the only example, but bought some deli ham that was pure slime. It was the last straw.
User's recommendation: Dont go. Boycott the greed.

Owner? Yeah right!
I work at Publix also and I'm on a Workers Comp case and they treat me like dirt. They give me less and less hours trying to force me to quit so I will settle the case.
They are literally a billion dollar a year business and they want me to settle a back injury that I will have the rest of my life for a MEASLEY amount of money! You are absolutely right they do not treat you as family or like they like to say "owner" because of my stock. BULL!
Terrible company and it's all about the DOLLARS, and bonuses for the managers!!

Publix raising prices again to ridiculous levels. Eggs, blueberries, anything necessary basically is going up again.
I complained to the store manager to no avail. Actually, she said that she'd pass the message to corporate. Who knows if she will.
Brooksville Publix is out of control. Up in here in Hernando County, we are being gentrified, so the stores, apartments, gas stations you name it think they have the right to price everyone out of existence except the rich of course.

Rude Service at Publix Pharmacy
The Publix Pharmacy Supervisor told me they would be taking up the issue with the pharmacy staff at the store that I was at. They also have me personal contact information and asked me to contact them if I have any further issues. I a very pleased in the way Publix followed up and showed concern for the way I was treated at this pharmacy.
I gave her my prescription for saline eye wash. She told me it would be 1 or 2 day because they had to order it. I told her my Dr had said it was always on hand at pharmacies and I could just show them my prescription and pick it up. This upset her and she mumbled something to the administrator working on a computer by her.
She came back and said they had it on hand and when did I want to pick it up. I told her now if possible. She told me it would take 30 minutes to fill. I told her I would shop and come back.
I did shop for about 20 minutes. I then went back to check because it was not busy at the pharmacy. When I went back she was standing there chatting with the supervisor working on the computer. I waited for her to stop and help me.
She asked me how she could help me. I asked if my prescription was ready. She said "Nope, it is not." She was doing nothing standing there chatting but she didn't have time to fill my prescription?? I left the store.
She was annoyed that I suggested they had the saline eye wash on hand and she was also annoyed that I wanted the prescription fill at that time. I am not sure if it was because I am white or because I am a senior citizen. But she did her best not to help me receive my prescription until she decided she would fill it.
I have gone to this pharmacy for decades but I refuse to spend any money at a pharmacy that is so rude to their costumers. I don't know if anyone will read or even do anything about this email but I want you to know how disappointed I am that Publix has a person like that on staff.

Verified Reviewer | Fort Myers, FloridaPrice-gouging
Publix gets a general low grade in our experience because the store continues to ratchet up prices despite national reports that inflation is generally coming down. A specific example is our grocery shopping experience this morning.
The store had moved its aspirin offerings out of the medication/personal care aisle to a special shelf by the pharmacy hyping the same aspirin we bought previously as an arthritic pain reliever -- as if this makes it okay to charge $23 for a product that costs pennies to make. Of course people use aspirin to ease minor arthritis pain, and also period cramps, occasional headaches and colds. How cynical and outright cruel of Publix to make people py through the nose for pain relief. In the dairy aisle, Publix had reverted to charging $5+ a dozen for eggs -- it had briefly brought the price down to below $3 -- charging $2.50+ for a half dozen.
We saw this upscaling trick used throughout the store, sensitizing consumers to paying more -- a lot more! -- with a buy offering of two-for-the-price-of-one very over-priced item,.
Publix may tell us that its price hikes are not their fault, that "distribution" is the problem. We don't buy it, nor should you.
We do hope Publix reads these reviews because this is just unconscionable. While we're not rah-rah patriots, their prices seem un-American in a particularly low way.
Most Americans live paycheck to paycheck and their salaries haven't kept pace with the inflationary pricing Publix is indulging in. Nor are its products in many cases luxury or discretionary items.
Its shoppers are trying to put food on the table.
Products used:
We ended up not buying aspirin at Publix (at those prices we wonder who would). We will try Dollar General.
- Clean store
- Prices high
Preferred solution: Price reduction
User's recommendation: We have to eat so our choices are limited. Grow some things if you can. Shop at lower-priced markets if you have them. If you have to shop at Publix, boycott the products like eggs and red meat that are out of sight. If everyone does this, they will get the message ... at least for a month or so,

Verified ReviewerPrice gauging and smaller amounts
Publix is price gauging! Their prices are more expensive and for smaller amounts.
Now they are bragging that the are up 50%. People can't afford their food and publix just proved it's all about corporate greed.???
Preferred solution: Apologize and explain to Americans about shrinkflation and charging excessive prices all for corporate greed and who knows but hopefully not for political reasons.
SO TIRED OF HIGH PRICES!
I used to be a loyal Publix shopper...for almost 40 years. Now I avoid the store like the plague unless I'm shopping for quick convenience.
When I do shop there, I leave with buyers remorse and I am so mad at myself for paying those outrageous prices! Everything is literally 30% more than other stores. I laugh as I walk down the isle looking at prices. They should be ashamed of themselves!
Not only that, but service has gone wayyyy down hill. No one ever asks to take your groceries out or if you found everything ok..
Maybe it's no longer a policy. But for these prices they should not only be taking my groceries out, they should be driving me home in a Mercedes!
Preferred solution: Price reduction
User's recommendation: Stop shopping there! Time for a boycott!
Price gouging
Overall food pricing compared to consumer costs. You name it bread, milk, eggs, beef, chicken, everything was overpriced.
User's recommendation: Don’t shop there.

Verified Reviewer | Fredericksburg, VirginiaHorrible Bakery Order
The rating is for their bakery. We've always enjoyed shopping here and never had an issue before, even when I ordered a cake from them several years ago.
This time, however, ordering a cake from them was a complete disaster. I placed the order 2 weeks ahead of time. Plenty of time for them to call me if they had any issues with it. Never heard from them; presumed things were fine.
Showed up about 15 minutes early to pick it up. Was very rudely told it would be ready exactly at the time I'd asked for pick up. OK, not a problem. Was back at the counter right at the exact time, and literally saw them bring out an UNDECORATED cake, they were just starting on.
I had the sinking feeling that was our cake. It was. We watched the lady hurriedly slap the border and side design on the cake. Then another lady came over and asked us if balloons were OK, instead of roses on it.
It was for our 35 year old daughter. I didn't think she'd want balloons. They said, since they were just now doing it, and hadn't made the roses earlier and set them in the freezer, as they should have; the decorations would melt in the extreme heat. They finally looked in their back room and pulled out some plain white gum paste roses.
I'd asked for red and yellow. The lady threw the cake into my hands and walked away. Upon talking to the bakery manager, the best he could do was to spray paint the roses red and add some rushed leaves. I am a baker myself.
Not professionally but have done cakes for big events for people. I, fortunately, had also baked another cake for this; but wanted her to have one really professionally done for this big birthday. That's not what she got in this cake from Publix. We got it home and our granddaughter said it looked like we'd gotten it off the shelf at Walmart!!
I was in tears! Then things got even worse. I had requested it to be 1/2 white and 1/2 chocolate. My husband and daughter in law can not eat chocolate.
Instead of that, it was a layer of each, so those that couldn't eat chocolate, still couldn't have any. Also, the supposedly strawberry filling was barely that. Lots of custard, hardly any strawberries at all. Even with all the issues with the decorations, and knowing it wasn't what we wanted, the bakery manager still charged us full price for it.
In hindsight, I probably should have refused it and gone somewhere else to get one off the shelf and just have them or myself write on it. Will Never order a bakery item from here again and, after the way we were treated, I'm not even sure I'll be shopping here anymore.
User's recommendation: Do NOT order a cake from them

I agree with your assessment of the horrible produce. This is the Naples store.
I have experienced it. I went one more time after a month hiatus out of sheer necessity and lack of time to go elsewhere. Again, I came home needing to shop elsewhere. I needed lemons and they are hard as rocks and therefore have no juice.
I checked the ones in a bag and that had rotten molded ones. They range from 89 cents each and up for virtually reaping nothing. I bought raspberries 3 for 10 dollars. I should have inspected further because when opened i realized that they were only 2/3 filled.
I wanted to buy fresh potted herbs and the only herbs they had were basil. I wanted clementines for a recipe and they didnt have any. I could go on. I wasted the time I didnt have and still have to shop elsewhere.
I really feel that there is no effort for consumer experience there. It’s all greedflation, shrinkflation, and corporate greed.
What a shame. This company needs oversight!
I’d say that the fresh potted herbs are a bit ridiculous. They’re a grocery store, not a plant nursery
Do you lose your sense of sight and touch as you are picking out your produce?
Another old coot heard from.... Don't like it, find somewhere else to shop that has better stuff and people to bother with your lame questions.
While you definitely come across as an old coot, the OP does not give his age.
Okay
