Publix - Review in Food Stores category from Jacksonville, Florida
I have worked for Publix for 5 years. I work my butt off, so no..
I am not a slacker by any means. I was taught work ethic, even if you hate your job- you do your best. I have worked as a cashier, aprons clerk, bakery clerk, and now produce clerk on the cut bar. I have tried to find my niche.
But i dont think I am the type of kiss ***, bend over and take it kind of person that Publix wants us to be. I cant be fake. Publix is NOT what Mr. George started it as.
If I did a survey I guarantee you at least 45% of the part time employees at any Publix have to have two jobs to support themselves. As front service at my store you would be lucky to get 23 hours even as the best employee. They keep hiring people though. If you want to work and pick up hours so you can pay your rent, you better not go over 34 hrs or you will get your hours cut to 20 like a punishment for wanting to work.
As a produce clerk on the cut bar, I leave everyday in physical pain BC our cut bar does at least $1800 on a regular day and I'm part time with 1 other full time cut bar clerk, and we don't always work together, we are by ourselves more days than we work together, needless to say its fine with two people. But God forbid they pay two people at once to get it done faster, they just work us alone so we have a 12 day instead and leave having to take a pain reliever for every muscle in your body. Its bogo watermelon chunks this week and today I was expected to do cut 400 small bowls and 180 medium bowls on top of my regular cut bar stuff which is already alot, with a floor clerk helping who has only cut fruit back there once before. Then they *** at you for going over your hours.
We aren't robots. We are human beings. We have a limit. This is not what Mr.
George Jenkins wanted. Not one bit.
