I got fired for tardiness, but I have OCD and being late is a symptom of that. I told them that and that my therapist confirmed it to me, and they said they believed me.
When I reached my tardy limit my manager told me it was okay and he would work it out with the store manager. They fired me anyway, and I asked if there are exceptions to rules for health. They said yes. I asked why not mental illness.
They wouldn't answer and asked me to leave. Not a great place to work for someone with mental illness.
My store actually tried to fire me for having 9 absences in a 6 month period. I asked what the dates were for the absences and when they told me I said those were not absences they were suspension days.
So I honestly almost got fired for not being at work because I was suspended. Pretty messed up if you ask me.
My wife, son and I went to the Publix on Bird Rd right off sr 826 a few years ago and my while we waited at the customer service desk to purchase something the clerks were chatting away while we waited. One clerk had put her cell phone on the counter and my then 10 year old son thinking it was his mother's phone picked it up then realizing it wasn't his mom's phone put it back down.
He then went to the bathroom since we had been waiting for over 20 minutes. On his way to the restroom he put his own cellphone in his pocket...the next time my wife and son went to that Publix the woman who apparently lost her phone accused my son of stealing it. My wife came home very upset and when she told me why I insisted we go back and demand we see video of the incident.
The store assistant manager refused and told us the store manager had to approve us seeing the security video. When I showed the assistant manger my process serve badge and ID and advised him I would gladly sue Publix for false accusation he relented and showed us video of my son picking up the phone and putting it back down but no part of the video showed the boy putting the phone in his pocket, because he didn't.
The next time we went to said store the woman, an Uruguayan again insulted us as when she saw us and yelled loudly, "that is the boy who stole my phone". I complained to the manager but nothing was done and the woman still works at that store.
We no longer shop there but know she still works because a neighbor who works at that store walks by my house every day on his way to work and told us she still at the store and has had problems with other customers.
Great way to lose long time customers. The manager a Mr Navarro is not doing a very good job.
I am totally anti union but there are instances were they are desperately needed (very rare instances) because they usually take more in dues than they get you in raises. This seems to be that instance.
Keep in mind when you go on strike there will be a corporate bean counter that will inform the company how long the strike must last to cover the increase in benefits you get from the strike.
Say they find out that with you on strike they may save $$ in benefits and salary per week then they add up what the cost will be to cover the pay raise and extra benefits for the say new 3 year contract. the rest is simple math 7 week strike X new $$ + benefits so they cover their cost for the extra benefits from you.
They work you death. One day you work ten hours, on another day you work 8 hours.
You never know exactly how many hours you will work because then they bring in more help just starting, and your hours get cut. Part timers are not treated right. If you have three days off wouldn't you use one day to break up the ten hour shifts.
Publix used to be good to work now management doesn't have a clue on hour to schedule or run a store. Trust me I am greatful for having a job but I don't want to have a heart attack doing it.
You sound retarded.
I've worked for Publix since I was 14. I am 25 now.
Eleven years I gave my life to this company just to get fired by nasty, rude, ungrateful, money-hungry, unkind managers. The managers as well as the district manager has planned to fire associates in boat loads here in Florida. I am a very out-spoken individual and value my self dignity to the fullest. Like I've mentioned, eleven years with this company and I've begged for full time.
I was always let down. I've worked my butt off and still no full time. The district manager finally agreed to give me full time in my eleventh year, if I agreed to switch stores (mind you I've been to 3 stores prior). He requested I move to a 4th store (located in the hood area of the city), then he wanted me to stay there 3 months to prove myself.
I've served eleven years, what more can I prove? The experience there was horrible. This same district manager, moved two white American young men there and gave them full time. On the other hand, I had to prove myself for 3 months then if granted full time I could not leave that store.
The two young men he moved there, he gave full time to come there and transferred them out to other stores for better opportunity. At Publix, you can not move up in the company if you are not full time. I decided to go back to my third store because the 4th store area was crazy. Once I went back a few months later my district managers and managers fired me.
I use to wake up loving the fact that I was going to work. The people in charge of Publix now are all about greed and are not fair. I'm an ambitious, intelligent, strong minded African- American young women. I feel like I've wasted eleven years of my life, nearly half of my life, for a company that gave me there butt to kiss.
I was giving five hours some weeks. How can I pay my bills? How can I provide for my sick mother and siblings?
A company I remained loyal to for over eleven years. #PublixAssociatesMatter
The integrity of Publix has declined. And it's the mangers to blame.
They run the stores as if it's their personal store. Until their in hot water then they want to lean on corporate.
You sound like a pain in the ***...no wonder you never got full time...you probably are one of those people who do nothing but complain.
My alias for this blog is 30yrs, because that's about how long I have been with Publix. I went into the company with a positive attitude, and hope for moving up within the company.
I do have one of the highest hourly paid positions, however, I was very diligent and loyal to the company. In other words...I worked for my pay, it wasn't given to me. If I had it all to do over again, and knowing what I know now, I would not have given Publix a second thought. Instead, I would have pursued a career elsewhere.
Publix is not the company it brags to be. Believe me, I have been there to see the changes take place during the time of George Jenkin's involvement, and the changes in the company after his death.
The changes were NOT in favor of the loyal employees with good work ethics, but rather, the management and their family and friends. I would be pleased, to no end, to see this blog explode and hopefully expose Publix for what the company really is about.
Yours truly,
30yrs
19 dedicated year with Publix and I agree with you 110%. This is definately NOT what Mr.George would do!
Got fired from my job at the Publix warehouse because I accidentally crushed a case of banana peppers that had fallen in the rack and I didn't notice it until I crushed it and because I didn't get the opportunity to get someone over to help clean it up "2" mind you now 2 weeks later because the new supervisor wanted to get rid of anyone that's been with the company 8 years or longer and not trying for management.
Anonymous, that is too bad that you were fired from the warehouse. I am perfectly aware, and totally disagree with the way Publix employees are being treated.
Publix does NOT live up to their so called Mission Statement. Believe me, I KNOW!!
Yours truly,
30yrs.
My brother was also a warehouse associate. He even relocated to a new city to apply to this new job.
6 months later, he was falsely terminated then told to return his benefits. After finishing his days work, he clocked out. He forgot to wrap his last package and return his forklift so he did just that.
Suddenly management the next day fired him for defrauding the system and(get this) Working Off The Clock(first time offence)!!!
The first charge was blatantly false.
The second was a tedious technicality. Now my brother must look else where to accrue the costs of moving from one locale to another.
You probably shouldn't work there anyways, with no understanding of how to speak properly.
Where do you see that this person is not speaking properly??
Does anyone posting to this site use punctuation?
"THERE WAS A GUY WHO DIE AT THE PUBLIX PARKING LOT WITH THE PUBLIX UNIFORM ON.THEY DIDNT NOTICE HE WAS MISSING UNTIL AFTER 13 HRS"
I've been laughing for 10 minutes. This is the greatest complaint I've ever read.
Does the way she speaks has anything to do with the treatment she or anyone else is receiving?
You obviously cant speak either. *have anything to do
